Operations experience. A new analytical direction.

I’m a Melbourne-based operations professional transitioning into data analytics after several years working with performance targets, staffing, inventory, customer service and day-to-day business decision-making.

Working in operations showed me how much value sits inside everyday business data. I regularly used reports and KPIs to understand performance, identify problems and allocate resources, which led me to develop deeper skills in SQL, Power BI and analytical methods.

I’m now building a portfolio of practical analytics projects that combines those technical skills with the operational context I already understand — translating data into findings that are useful to decision-makers.

Retail Performance Dashboard

An interactive retail dashboard analysing sales, margin and store performance across a fictional multi-location business to identify trends and performance differences.

  • Cleaned and structured transactional data before analysis.
  • Created measures for revenue, gross margin, average transaction value and period-over-period performance.
  • Built store and product-category comparisons using interactive filters.
  • Designed trend views to highlight changes across months and regions.
  • Summarised business findings alongside the dashboard rather than presenting charts in isolation.
OutcomeProduced an executive-style dashboard that converts transactional data into clear retail-performance indicators and comparison views.

Workforce Planning Analysis

An analysis exploring the relationship between staffing levels, customer demand and labour utilisation across different days and trading periods.

  • Combined fictional demand, staffing and labour-cost datasets for analysis.
  • Used SQL to aggregate staffing and demand by location, day and hour.
  • Compared labour allocation with periods of higher and lower customer activity.
  • Identified potential overstaffing and coverage gaps within the sample schedule.
  • Presented findings through Power BI visuals and operational recommendations.
OutcomeDemonstrated how operational data can support more informed workforce scheduling and labour-allocation decisions.

Inventory Optimisation Analysis

A fictional inventory analysis examining stock movement, turnover and availability to identify slow-moving products and potential stockout risk.

  • Analysed inventory balances alongside product sales and replenishment data.
  • Calculated inventory turnover and identified products with unusually low movement.
  • Used SQL queries to classify stock according to sales activity and availability risk.
  • Created Power BI views covering stock levels, turnover and product categories.
  • Developed example recommendations for prioritising inventory review.
OutcomeBuilt an analytics workflow that demonstrates how stock data can support replenishment and inventory-management decisions.

Customer Behaviour Analysis

An exploratory analysis of fictional retail transaction data focused on purchase frequency, customer value and behavioural differences between customer groups.

  • Prepared customer and transaction data for repeat-purchase analysis.
  • Used SQL to calculate transaction frequency, customer spend and recency measures.
  • Grouped customers into simple behavioural segments for comparison.
  • Built visualisations covering repeat purchasing, average spend and category preference.
  • Translated analytical outputs into concise observations about customer behaviour.
